Nature and sustainability: Raffles City Hangzhou is the 400,000 m2 city where you can live and work
Raffles City Hangzhou is an urban hub designed and built by UNStudio. A sustainable city for living, work and leisure
Located 180 kilometers southwest of Shanghai, Raffles City Hangzhou occupies nearly 400,000 m2 and consists of two aerodynamic towers located atop a hill in a large green area.
City and nature come together, for a sustainable and comfortable solution.
Raffles City Hangzhou: the corrugated buildings recall the movement of the river
The main entrance of the city opens onto the city park and civic center. The whole town reflects the movement of the river. In fact, the buildings maintain a corrugated movement that recalls nature and creates a dynamic and refined structure.
The tower bases are home to shops, restaurants, leisure facilities and car parks, as well as a direct underground subway connection. All these services offer the residents a healthy and socially integrated environment, ensuring 24/7 activities and creating a safe and lively neighborhood for all.
The center of the towers has been created in a spiral form, with a spectacular atrium that represents the organizational and visual crux of the entire building. The atrium has been designed as a spiral of overlapping layers, creating a connection between the various floors and a wide view between the spaces.
There are two diagonals of seven floors starting from the atrium; each diagonal extends for about 150 meters in each direction. The abundant daylight flows through the atrium all the way into the lower floors.
Looking up, through the skylights, you can always see the towers, which change appearance depending on the watching point.
Raffles City Hangzhou: the concept of Superliving
A place for living and working: the main goal of Raffles City Hangzhou. In light of the impacts of urbanization worldwide, UNStudiohas designed a city that stimulates a sustainable idea of living. In addition to living, within the urban area you can work, stay at the hotels and access to all the services typical of a city, such as shopping or going to the gym.
