Terna and RSE United to Strengthen the Italian Electric Grid and Promote the Energy Transition

On February 14, Terna and RSE signed a partnership agreement that includes the development of technologies to increase the flexibility of the Italian electric grid.

Terna, the company responsible for managing the national electricity transmission grid, together with RSE, a leading company in energy sector analysis and applied research, have inaugurated a strategic five-year collaboration.

This partnership aims to stimulate the development and use of technological and methodological innovations in the energy and environmental sectors, giving rise to research projects and development and innovation initiatives.

The pact was formalized on February 14 in Rome, with the signing of Giuseppina Di Fog

Italian Electric Grid: Development of New Technologies Thanks to Terna and RSE

This collaboration will result in intense joint activities ranging from planning and programming to coordinated management, creating a conducive environment for advancing research and technology and realizing innovative projects that will ensure energy security and grid resilience. This aspect is crucial for Terna, which plays a central role in implementing the energy transition, and for RSE, committed to promoting innovation, efficiency, and sustainability throughout the energy supply chain.

In particular, the partnership includes an agreement that paves the way for mutual collaboration on a variety of topics, including:

Optimal network planning and design
Adoption of methodologies for smart-asset management
Monitoring and control of system resilience
Development of technologies to increase grid flexibility
Analysis of scenarios related to the evolution of energy demand and production from renewable sources
Big data management and data science
Utilization of IoT technologies
Cybersecurity
Artificial intelligence and other technologies that facilitate the energy transition in Italy
The progress of the initiated projects will be constantly monitored by a Management Committee, composed of representatives from Terna and RSE, ensuring focused and targeted oversight towards achieving the set goals.

Terna and RSE: The Agreement to Address the Needs of the Energy Transition

Giuseppina Di Foggia expressed great satisfaction with this alliance with RSE, recognized as a reference point both in Italy and Europe for its dedication to research and the development of efficient solutions for the energy industry.

She emphasized the importance of the partnership in promoting the development of cutting-edge technologies to effectively address the needs and challenges posed by the energy transition, in harmony with national and international decarbonization goals.

Franco Cotana highlighted the need for an energy transition that includes an increase in the use of electricity in various sectors. He particularly emphasized the need for Italy to have electric grids that are not only smart and efficient but also interconnected, to support an increasingly complex demand.

Therefore, the agreement between RSE and Terna marks the beginning of an important collaboration aimed at the evolution of alternating and direct current grids, essential for the effective distribution of electricity in the country.
